So, lately I’ve been spending time alone. Occasionally, my nephew will visit for TV time; but other than that, it’s been just me. Since my dad passed away, there’s been a lot on my mind. I think about him quite often. I know that’s part of the grieving process. I’m sure that as time goes on, I will want to hang out with more people. It is still my goal to meet more folks and do things different this year.

I’m currently reading the book, “Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead” by Sheryl Sandberg. It’s about women leaders in business. As I read, I’m learning a lot about the female and male minds as well as how my thoughts have gotten me to where I am today. I am a classic example of the women Sandberg writes about in the first part of the book. The biggest “aha” moments so far have been: Read the rest of this entry »

Here we are again. Another week, another five minutes of me. What’s new in my world? I started working with a trainer at Precision Fitness. This week was the first full week. It was tough, but I know it will pay off in the end. I’m still doing the Paleo diet. This week I really wanted a piece of bread….really, really bad. I also craved a glass of wine. I had watermelon and pecans instead. This is my life right now. Read the rest of this entry »

What’s on my mind this week? I need to get more active. I recently purchased a group personal training package through LivingSocial. This week I called to get started. The other day I pulled out my Bethenny Frankel “Body by Bethenny” DVD. I popped it in the DVD player and then the phone rang. You know what that means: I told myself the yoga could wait and I talked to my mother << read, I will do yoga tomorrow>>.

Five Minutes of Me – Volume 1, Issue 3

So, here we are again. Today, I am thinking about clean eating and exercising. I know that thinking and “doing” are two different things. For me, the first step is to think about. I like to call it visualization (smile). I’m really interested in kettlebells. I actually have a set, and I’m researching workouts on YouTube and Pinterest. My favorite “Pins” right now are:

As for clean eating, I made dinner tonight. I’m learning to cook and making dinner gets me closer to being a great cook. For dinner I made my version of cilantro-lime brown rice with black beans and taco ground beef topped with pico de gallo. It was tasty!

Five Minutes of Me – Volume 1, Issue 2

Five Minutes of me on Sunday, July 7, 2013.

Today I spent five minutes freely writing about whatever came to my mind. Below are my thoughts. Enjoy.

So, I purchased an electric grill today. I’ve been wanting one for some time. With this being the closing of the holiday weekend, the pressure became to much. I already cooked my first meal on the grill. I made chicken, pork chops, hot dogs and hamburgers. Yes, I made enough food to last a few days. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. As with each adventure, there are lessons to be learned. With more practice, I will master my little grill.

There so much going on in the world right now. There was a plane crash at San Francisco International airport yesterday. Asiana Airlines Flight 214 originated in China with a stop in Seoul, South Korea before preparing to land at the San Francisco airport. Miraculously, there were only two passengers who perished. There were many injured and all are accounted for. This had particular interest to me as I just returned from an international flight less than 2 weeks ago. Times and incidents like this that make you stop and take a close look at how God has kept you. I thank him for all he’s done for me…and what he holds for me in the future.

As I close, this song is resonating in my spirit: “God Specializes” — below is a video of the song being sung by Pastor E. Dewey Smith, Jr. of Great Travelers Rest Baptist Church in Decatur, GA.

Today I spent five minutes freely writing about whatever came to my mind. Below are my thoughts. Enjoy.

It’s hot. I’m sitting in my living room, and it’s hot. Today was a lazy day. There were so many things that I could have done; but I mostly just slept and relaxed. Sometimes lazy days are needed. I can’t stop thinking about my recent trip to Punta Cana. I loved it! I wish I was there right now. My new mission: travel the world! I’ve been hit with the travel bug. How can I make enough money to take all the trips I want. I’m now creating a list of places to visit next. Here’s what I have so far:

As you can see, I have big dreams. I’m searching for as many all-inclusive resorts I can find. You know, all-inclusive is the way to go. You can have whatever you like…whenever you like.

Time’s up.

What would you freely write for five minutes? Make it happen!
