Photo created using A Beautiful Mess photo app.

Yea, I’ve been missing in action. I took a hiatus earlier this year to concentrate on designing a new blog. I secured my domain name, got a logo and started the infamous “redesign.” This post is a quick way to let you know that the new blog is up an running.

Check out the posts at starting now! Let me know what you think.

I’m excited to be back on schedule. The new blog is a work in progress, and I hope you like it. Add me to your blog reader or bookmark the site. I’m updating regularly.

Thanks for reading. I really appreciate your support.

Pinterest-inspired Book Party

In Thoughts on January 13, 2014 at 6:41 PM

This past weekend I hosted a party for our “Reading Between the Wines” Book Club. For the month of December, we read I Don’t Know How She Does It by Allison Pearson. I tweeted Allison during the month, and she was kind enough to reply.

Talk Thursday with LaTonya

Talk Thursday with LaTonya Richardson

This year has started off…cold! It’s been frigid in my area of the country. These are some of the coldest temperatures we’ve seen in years. Wind chills were far below zero earlier this week (-20 real-feel temperature). Nonetheless, I hunkered down and carried on.

Trip Outside My Zip Code | January 2014

In Aha Moment, Thoughts on January 6, 2014 at 10:21 PM

My Trip Outside my Zip Code_Cherokee Casino_Addicted2Fries Blog
Welcome to the first edition of my 2014 goal to take a trip outside my zip code. This is a new travel series in which I discuss my journeys in 2014. I decided to set a travel goal (read resolution) as a way to do something different. I wanted an opportunity to meet new people and do new things.

This month, I got away with a friend to a nearby casino & hotel. We made our decision on Tuesday and traveled  that Friday. With the destination being close (yet outside my zip code), making arrangements was simple. We used a gift certificate she won last year at a silent auction. Read the rest of this entry »

Top Five Quotes from Nelson Mandela

In Thoughts on December 9, 2013 at 9:11 PM

Last week the world lost a great leader in history. Nelson Mandela passed away. He was 95 years old, and on December 5 he earned his wings in heaven. I was familiar with Nelson Mandela and quietly watched his influence for many years. In high school, we studied Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., but only briefly discussed Mandela. I knew of his time in prison and his leadership in South Africa. Recently, I was able to view several news clips and read articles about his amazing life. In my research, I found the five quotes below from Mandela. These quotes are my top quotes from him and are inspirational to me. Read the rest of this entry »

The Talk Thursday series continues! I am enjoying the series and the interviews each week have been great. This week features my friend, Todd J. I met Todd about three years ago at a tech group meeting in downtown Little Rock. We spent time talking about web design, blogging and sports that evening. Since then, we’ve kept in touch via social media and conferences. I admire his passion for writing and designing. I’m excited to have him as part of the series. Let’s see what he has to say! Happy Veteran’s Day

Addicted to Fries - Happy Veteran's Day

photo collage created by Ramona Collins. United States flag image used with permission from Creative Commons user uhuru1701.

Today I salute all veterans and members of the military for their service to our country. Because they served, we (the people of the United States) continue to have freedom and rights. I would especially like to thank my late father, Lloyd Sr. and my oldest brother, Lloyd Jr. for  serving our nation. My dad was in the Vietnam War, and it changed his life in many ways. We never talked many details about his time in the Army, but I know it meant a lot to him. Read the rest of this entry »

Motivation Monday: Learn Something New

Motivation Monday: Learn Something New

created by Ramona Collins using

I am a strong believer that you never stop learning. You may not take formal classes or courses every year, but you are continually learning. We learn at our jobs. We learn at church. We learn from our family. I learn several things from my nephew – the latest kid shows, etc. This time last year I took a Spanish class through the Larson’s Language Center. Motivation Monday: Fitness, or the Lack Thereof

In Health Thoughts, Thoughts on October 28, 2013 at 12:30 PM

Motivation Monday, Fitness or the Lack Thereof

Okay, truth be told, I haven’t worked out in over a month. I have fallen off the wagon. I need to get back on. I’ve been busy lately – working and volunteering on a project with my sorority. This leaves little time for exercise. There have been random days where I park in a remote (read “far away”) parking space. However, this is not by choice but by fact that I arrived at the wrong time. Those are the days I get the most [air quote] exercise [end air quote].

Motivation Monday: What Are You Afraid of?

In Thoughts on October 14, 2013 at 10:16 PM

In a recent blog post, I discussed my early learnings from the Lean In book by Sheryl Sandberg. In Chapter One, she describes a quote that’s on the walls at the Facebook Headquarters. The quote is “What would you do if you weren’t afraid?” It is powerful, thought-provoking and has really stuck in my mind. When we let fear creep into our dreams, we lose control of our destiny. Fear holds us back. What are we afraid of? Are you afraid of failing, or maybe we are afraid of succeeding. We accomplished a big goal, got over a hurdle…now what? Possibly, we’re of the unknown, not knowing what to expect with each step.

In searching Twitter, I found the quotes below from others who highlight people’s tendency to let fear design control their dreams. Take a look and let me know what you think. Read the rest of this entry »

Another Five Minutes…of Me

In Five Minutes, Thoughts on October 13, 2013 at 9:41 PM
Five Minutes of Me

created by Ramona Collins using photo editor.

So, lately I’ve been spending time alone. Occasionally, my nephew will visit for TV time; but other than that, it’s been just me. Since my dad passed away, there’s been a lot on my mind. I think about him quite often. I know that’s part of the grieving process. I’m sure that as time goes on, I will want to hang out with more people. It is still my goal to meet more folks and do things different this year.

I’m currently reading the book, “Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead” by Sheryl Sandberg. It’s about women leaders in business. As I read, I’m learning a lot about the female and male minds as well as how my thoughts have gotten me to where I am today. I am a classic example of the women Sandberg writes about in the first part of the book. The biggest “aha” moments so far have been: Read the rest of this entry »

Motivation Monday: Happiness, Journey or Destination?

Happiness quote, quotes from Henry Ford, Dale Carnegie

Life is what we make it. The biggest part of living requires action. We must do something. For me, happiness is a journey, not a destination. I believe that our best part of life is on the road to a goal. Our achievements are manifestations of our thoughts, actions and belongings. Our thoughts are very powerful. What a person believes is often what he/she achieves. It was Henry Ford who said:

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.”

{Motivation Monday} It’s a New Day

In Thoughts on September 16, 2013 at 1:31 PM

Motivation Monday: It's a New Day
“It’s a new season. It’s a new day.
Fresh anointing is flowing my way.
It’s a season of power and prosperity.
It’s a new season!”

What you did yesterday has come and gone. What you have planned for tomorrow is yet to happen. Today is the day to do what you would’ve done. Be the person you’re meant to be. Each day is an opportunity to start over and get it right.

This video by Israel Houghton and New Breed, entitled “It’s a new Season,” is my inspiration today.

How will you reinvent yourself today?

Five Minutes of Me: Volume 1, Issue 5

082913_Five Minutes of Me

Here we are again. Another week, another five minutes of me. What’s new in my world? I started working with a trainer at Precision Fitness. This week was the first full week. It was tough, but I know it will pay off in the end. I’m still doing the Paleo diet. This week I really wanted a piece of bread….really, really bad. I also craved a glass of wine. I had watermelon and pecans instead. This is my life right now. Read the rest of this entry »
